Purchasing Agent

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Purchasing Agent/Buyer to join our team and contribute to our continued success. We currently have an opening at our Aurora location. 

As a purchasing agent at Barton Supply, you will pay at Barton Supply, you will play a crucial role in our supply chain operations. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Vendor Management: Identify, evaluate, and develop relationships with suppliers to ensure the timely and cost-effective procurement of materials. Meet with vendor representatives to maintain relationships. 
  • Negotiation: Negotiate favorable terms and agreements with vendors, including pricing, delivery, and payment terms.
  • Inventory Control: Monitor and maintain optimal inventory levels to meet production and project requirements while minimizing excess inventory. Work with inventory control groups to resolve discrepancies. 
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that all materials purchased meet the company's quality standards, project specifications, and industry regulations. 
  • Cost Analysis: Analyze market trends and pricing to make informed purchasing decisions that drive cost savings and efficiency.
  • Purchase Order Management: Create and manage purchase orders, track inbound deliveries, and resolve discrepancies. Prepare reports to analyze purchases. 
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including production, sales, and project management to understand their needs and coordinate the procurement process. Work closely with Accounts Payable to resolve vendor invoicing issues. Attending buyer meetings. 
  • Sales Support: Enter orders for special order material that relates to direct purchasing duties. Source products as needed. Meets with sales management team to get feedback on product offerings and new product lines. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management or a related field is preferred. Applicable experience can be substituted for education. 
  • Proven experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain management. 
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills, both verbal and written. 
  • Works well independently and with a team.
  • Knowledge of steel/rebar, commodities, or construction materials is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and purchasing software. Bistrack experience is a plus. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 

Work Environment:

The working environment is typically indoors and at a desk. Daily activities may include necessary tips to our warehouse, yard, or production floor which are subject to all weather conditions. All warehouse and production areas are subject to safety standards. Appropriate clothing and PPE (including hard hat) must be worn when in these areas. Travel is less than 10%. 

Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. The employee in this position is paid hourly, and is expected to work the hours necessary to manage the production operations of the organization.
